WGHA GRAND FINAL REPORTS
2007
The Grand Final matches were played out in fine weather, but the competition was fierce as rivals played for the honour of finishing the season as premiers. Gulls had the potential to finish strongly with four teams vying for top spot in the respective divisions. However, it was the Under 13 Gulls team that shone, scoring an almighty seven goals against Drouids.

Drouids 2 Aztec 1
It was great to see so many people turn up to watch Aztecs and Drouids. The skill level was amazing for such young kids! Both teams worked their hardest to play as teams and subsequently had the crowd on the edges of their seats for most of the game.
Aztecs had a task on their hands with no substitutes to relieve them, but they worked hard and showed great determination through out the whole game. Ebony Scott did a great job as Goal Keeper and will be one to watch out for as she progresses with her skills. Michael Finger, Dean McMasters, Stewart McKenzie and Liam Robinson played well attacking the ball and showing their developing skills. As usual, Jake and Tayla Brown worked well together to push the ball down the field. Chloe Bourke, Eliza Bullen, Karen Pedder, and Shayla Ward provided excellent back up and defended the ball well. Michael Finger was our only goal -scorer for the game. Tiffany Bourke and Jake Griffiths again supported the whole team and showed how much they have both grown as coaches for this team (they are only 14 years old!). Well done Aztecs on a great year of hockey and congratulations to Drouids who played well and took out the premiership.
A very evenly fought first half, saw Sam Watts and James Pugh clearing the ball at crucial moments. Richard Jones had some shots on goal with near misses. Mitchell Park showed great persistence on the forward line. Drouids had a few short corners which failed to score. Alec Madill saved a shot on goal by Aztecs and moved the ball back down the field. Stephanie Zurrer and Amy Pugh played their positions well. By half time neither team had scored.
Early on in the second half, Drouids scored with a beautiful push by Jenna Pederson to Richard Jones who delivered a strong hit into goal. Great running down the field and good stick work by Edward Edmunds resulted in Drouids’ second goal. Aztecs scored a goal soon after keeping up the pressure. Jacob Bush continued to work strongly in midfield and Thomas Park was reliable on the wing. It was unfortunate that Tara Pedersen sustained a hit to the hand and needed to come off. The sting was relieved by the sound of the siren and Drouids winning the grand final. Danielle Cooper has had a great season as the U11’s main goal keeper and it was a privilege for Lachlan Hannah to be captain for the day. Our thanks go to coaches, Alec Zurrer and Deb Wiglesworth. Drouids U11’s is a very talented team!

Gulls (7) Def Drouids (2)
Wow! What a way to end the season. Playing a fantastic team game Gulls just kept putting those goals away. Goal scorers this week are Michael (2), Bethany (1), Jake (1), Luke (1), Lucy (1) and Aubrey (1). A big thank you goes out to Michael Gaylard for a sensational coaching effort. Go Gulls!
The final score does not describe the determination and resilience of the Drouids under 13 team. In a blinding start, Matthew Zurrer scored the first goal of the game giving a half time score of 1-2. The strength of the Gulls was huge with Drouids having many opportunities at goal, but unable to convert. Defense was tested and could not withstand the Gulls but all gave their best on the day. The team spirit and sportsmanship of this group was high throughout and ended on a high note with another goal to Matt. The support from the crowd was fantastic. Looking forward to next year!!

Aztecs (2) Def Gulls (0)
Playing a very strong game but unable to keep up with the Aztecs, Gulls did their best to keep them at only 2 goals. Ben “the goalie” played an awesome game, as did Wes Dowell, Mel Forth, Ashley Gaylard and Michael Wyhoon. Showing that the more you play are the improving player of this round, Brooke Wearne, Nat Tyson, Genevieve and Rick Webster. It just wasn’t our day today Gulls. Good work.

Fantastic game today with very tight contest from both sides. Gulls playing great attacking hockey game, as well as being strong in defense, meant they stopped many attempts at goal. Playing very strong in their postions were: Isaac Armstrong, Matthew Vabach, James Meaker, Wes Dowell, Casey Crestani, Emma Hoffman, Chris Fox, Peter Eshuis and Nathan Kemp. Great effort Gulls.
