Warriors are really playing well together and it was good to see everyone really having a go. Joshua Horsburgh scored the first goal for the game; this was followed by Ethan Calway scoring. A nice push by Nicholas Duke in the second half and great teamwork by Emily Horsburgh helped Ethan Calway score his second goal. Lachlan Tress played well supporting his fellow players following and passing the ball the full field. Kate Rinehart pushed and fought hard to try and save the Gulls’ goal. The first 15 minutes of the first half was a stalemate. The Drouids backline of Alec Madill and James Pugh repelled many Gulls attacks.  Finally Drouids got the ball in their attacking D and Lachlan Hannah struck it firmly into the goal.  A second organized movement forward saw Mitchell Park make a beautiful pass inboard to Richard Jones who sent the ball into the back of the goal.  The half time score stood at Drouids 2, Gulls 0.

After a slow start in the second half Lachlan Hannah dribbled confidently down the left side and slotted Drouids 3rd  goal.  Soon after, came a solid build-up from the Drouids halves which resulted in Jenna Pedersen pushing a goal from the post.

Aztecs def Warriors 3-1

In a well-contested game Aztecs managed to maintain their advantage with much of the play in their attacking half. Michael Finger and Luke Taylor were again pivotal players with Adam Smetana, Ryan Ward and Katie Finger being key contributors in attack. Leesa Crookston played a very useful role on the wing scoring the first goal. Cameron Price was tenacious as ever in the clashes and received the most disciplined player award. A great team effort.

Goal scorers: Leesa Crookston, Cameron Price, Luke Taylor.

Even with only ten players, Warriors again showed great determination to make it a very close encounter with first year player and new goalie Daniel Boyd starring with many brilliant saves. With Sam Cumming and Jacinta Brown’s great support they managed to restrict Aztecs to only two goals in the first half. Leigh Boreham and Brendan Noye were moving the ball out of defense effectively where Nicholas Brown was very lively creating many spirited runs that caused the Aztec defense many headaches, one which resulted in some nice team play to Aidan Cumming who slotted it pass the keeper. In the second half with the Warriors having to play one short, they started to run out of legs.

A hard fought even game. Both sides attacked the ball hard and entertained the spectators with their skillful play. It was good to have Jesse Ward back in the Aztecs side. Terrific team play saw every team member contribute towards our winning score. Aztecs backline of Madeline Higgins and Beth Chandler and Tori Brown as goalie provided an impressive defensive line. Well done to Beth Whelan who was this weeks Most disciplined Player.

Kate, Julian, Lizzy, Luke and Dylan provided plenty of run all match. Bronte Hobson and Evan Urquhart were terrific with their manning up and supporting of GK Michael Dobson, who had a wonderful game in goals. Warriors def Aztecs 1-4

It was great to have the full compliment of boys back in the side to add to some strength and speed to the team. Jesse Ward was strong in the centre. Patrick Childe as goalkeeper threw himself into the game and saved numerous balls from being converted to goals. Beth Whelan positioned herself well to hassle her opponents. In fullback Jasmin Allen sent the ball down into attack many times. Jamie Cochrane and Jake Griffiths showed excellent command of the ball, and Mikael Dunlop is showed good aptitude for the game with his second game for the season.

Goal scorers:  Sam Hill (1)

The game got off to a great start when Michael scored the first goal for the Warriors early in the game. Great teamwork resulted in a short corner that was put away by Michael again, for his second for the team. Sean and Andrew provided run off the back line the forwards. BJ contested the ball well, preventing the Aztecs from going in to attack. Toffa played well and nearly scored numerous goals. Cassie drove the Warriors into attack with great ball handling. Tyler stepped in to provide a target on the wing. Clay ended the half, scoring the third goal for the team off the goalies pads.  Bron and Evelyn assisted the team with some good passes forward.  The Warriors again mostly controlled the second half and they scored their fourth goal with a powerful shot by Daniel, resulting in a very pleasing win for the Warriors.

Drouids

No goals were scored, but the Drouids players were consistently working hard to break through Gulls defense. Drouids defense worked equally hard to gain control of the ball and prevented the Gulls from having scoring opportunities. Goalie Michael Dobson prevented Gulls from scoring numerous times by kicking the ball back away from the goal.

Bright sunshine and a cool edge to the air greeted the U17’s today and this was reflected in the game as both teams fought hard in a fast paced game.  Good passing lead to goals being scored. Tiarna Kramer, Lara Trevorrow, Chris Miles, Emma Hoffman & Kasey Crestani played well on an uneven ground. Paul Kramer coached his heart out. Bring on the synthetic turf!

Goal Scorers: Ewan Wallin (2), Peter Eshuis (1) & Matthew Goertz (1)

Drouids 1 drew Gulls 1

The Drouids played well as a team and were full of confidence with the younger players, Sam Hannah and Leigh Jamison, stepping up at the higher level.  Gordon Hobson was strong in the midfield and Brad Moyle got plenty of the ball in defense.  John Thomson scored a goal for the Drouids early in the first half but the forwards could not find the back of the net for the rest of the game despite numerous attempts.  The Gulls managed to score the equalizer in the first minute of the second half and the game remained tied at full time.

In a great result, Gulls played short and drew with Drouids.  Chris Miles and Richard Court led a stoic defense. Adam Horne gave a faultless goalkeeping exhibition and Mark Freestone ran himself ragged. Ben Hallyburton was always dangerous and Ben Sandy worked hard to make a contest.  Keep it up.

Aztecs 2 drew Gulls gold 2

Aztecs, on a high after a good win in their last game, played a lacklustre game this week. Gulls were able to match all attacking moves, despite persistent attacks from Alicia Wood-Davies, Rowena Beck and Colleen Crookston. Gulls strong defence, kept Aztecs from scoring in the first half. Alicia Wood-Davies and Kerry Irwin finally broke through in the second half. Jan Park and Robyn Ridsdale were hitting the ball well and Jackie Mowat and Melissa Scott were reliable in defense. Mel Crookston had some timely touches and Cass Jolley was a great back up.
