Reports 17-05-201
A nice crisp but sunny morning set the scene for the first game where the two Aztecs under 9 teams played each other. It was a fun match of 3 players per side, special thanks to Steph Coulter for very kindly coming across to the “dark side” and playing for the Aztecs Two team to even up the sides. Claire Giles showed great persistence in getting the ball and Erin Park was dynamic in getting the two goals. A fun time was had by all.
Warriors Two def Warriors One 4 – 2
The derby was a great game, the only time when it was okay to
tackle other Warriors players. It really was quite an even match. It is great to
see all the younger players developing. Well played Shenae, Lani and Alice,
these girls are getting better with every game. Wade and Vanessa had very solid
games, setting up lots of play. Josh played a good game with three goals and
Angelina is becoming a superstar with her first goal and a near miss. It is
great to see our stronger players bringing the other kids into the game with
good passing and just general enthusiasm. Well done guys and well done to the
other Warriors team also.
After a late start with some opposition goalie issues,
warriors were on fire with two extra players this week. Some great defence in
the first half from Mathew Lubberink, Joshua Horsburgh, Olivia Stagg and Jasmine
Mead. In the second half warriors were again on fire pushing the ball forward,
Oscar Bademan & Lachlan Naylor showing excellent teamwork. Our first time goalie
Ryan Ward showed a lot of patience. Our star player today was Olivia Stagg
getting our goal to win the game against the undefeated Drouids.
Two players down, eight girls and Isaac Daly, formed a
cohesive team. Chelsea Beca was a dominant player, supported by Courtney
McDonald and Grace Park in getting the ball down into the goal circle. Kelsey
Powell and Mia Pedersen at halfback doggedly kept the Warriors out of goals
until one snuck past a usually vigilant Sara Fleming. The final score didn’t
really reflect the heart the Drouids played with, on tired legs, but willing
hearts and minds.
Gulls
def Aztecs 4 – 0
The Gulls were on fire against the Aztec's. Their defence was
untroubled as their midfield and forwards dominated the game. Sam Gilbert,
Isabella, Donders, Tavis Gallagher and Daniel Greenall were in scintillating
form. Stewart Bedford, Olivia Donders and Mitchell Noonan weaved wonders through
the opposition and Eliza Greenall, Jeremy Vanwicken -Robinson and Sam Wells
were full of endeavour. Overall all the players worked to a structure, their
passing and backing each other was a credit to them.
Despite being two players down for the match, Aztecs put forward a brave battle. Tim Giles took every opportunity offered to steer the ball towards his fellow players and quick running between Tara Bagnall and Arianne Ross thwarted many opposition attempts at running away with the match. James Carey and Brad Akers showed good defensive technique directing the ball well. Leah Rasmussen had a great attempt at goal, missing narrowly. Chloe Scott and Jesse Brown played confidently and Clare Giles, playing up, made a valuable contribution to the game. Erin Park (also under 9) did a fantastic job at defending the goals. Aztecs battled determinedly, however the Gulls were able to score 4 goals by the end winning the game.
This game, which
ended in a draw, was a dynamic and competitive game. Warriors worked hard,
passing the ball well. There was more action in the defence area and
Damian Crawford worked hard as goalie. Fletcher Boreham played well in
defence, using good ball sticks to stop the Drouids attach. Drouids scored
first and Warriors were keen to match the early goal. The forward line
played well together and Cameron Dyt and Ethan Callway played well. Jack
Rinehart is developing a really strong hit, and sent many good passes up to the
forward line. Maddy Noye scored the only goal for the Warriors.
There could have been a dramatic finish but Ebony Porter stopped a Drouids goal
just before the final whistle.
Goal scorer:
Maddy Noye(1)
Drouids scored early in the game from a short corner pushed in by Charlie Park and then hit in by Lachlan Hannah. Throughout the game Thomas Park passed the ball well and Mitchell Park did excellent tackling. Meagan Wright and Charlie Park put in lots of second efforts. Tara Pedersen did some strong pushes in full back and Cassie Sherlock was solid in defence through the centre. It was a hard fought game by both teams with Warriors scoring the equalizing goal near the end of the game.
Gulls
def Aztecs 14 – 1
An undermanned Aztecs team, against strong and
consistent Gulls, played a great game. Stewart McKenzie played a skilful
defensive game throughout, backed up well by Ariane Ross in the first half the
match. Hamish Connelly worked hard in attack and with a clever set up by Todd
McLean, Hamish scored Aztec’s only goal. New player Matt Shaw, who is quickly
developing skill in defence, made a terrific contribution. Chloe Scott was great
in defence, moving the ball around well and blocking many hits from the Gulls.
Chloe was a deserving recipient of the most disciplined player on the day.
Cambell Ross as goalie foiled several goal attempts but overall Gulls triumphed.
Goal scorers: Hamish Connelly (1)
Aztecs started the game attacking the goal with vigour. The young under 13’s
Todd McLean and Hamish Connolly contributed to the play winning short corners
for the Aztecs. Megan Forrest on the left side of the field continued to hold up
the play winning many free hits. Chris Cooper scored a nice goal just short of
half time. Michael Finger struck a strong goal delivered from another short
corner. The second half was again attacking with most of the play in our forward
half in the shadows of Bellbird Park. Stewart McKenzie and the back line held
off many attackers with great stick work and great clearing shots.
Goal scorers: Luke Hall

Drouids def Warriors 7 – 4
Drouids played a great team game with all
players contributing. Good work on the post saw both wings Naomi Armstrong and
Jenna Pederson goaling for Drouids. James Pugh and Jacob Bush scored goals, were
potent forwards teaming with Lachie Hannah chiming in for a goal as well.
Goal scorers: James Pugh (1), Jacob Bush (3), Naomi Armstrong (1), Jenna
Pederson (1), Lachie Hannah (1)
The only 2 goals in the game were both scored
in the first half. In defence William Edmonds and Prue Grant did well defending
for Drouids. In attack Sam Atkinson and James Pugh did well being the only goal
scorers. In the midfield Lachlan Mclean, Jordan Di Pietro, Sam Stenson and Jacob
Bush.
Goal scorers: Sam Atkinson (1), James Pugh (1)
Gulls
def Aztecs 2 – 0
Great conditions for
the Gulls under 17 match against the Aztecs. An early goal by Kelsey Bayles set
the scene for some fast paced play up and down the field by both teams. A goal
scored by Kiarn Uliando during a penalty stroke gave the Gulls a two goal
victory. Good to see teamwork developing.
Both teams were evenly matched and provided a great game of hockey. First half
saw Aztecs concede two short corner goals to the Gulls.
An awesome team effort with Luke Taylor, Chris Cooper
and Luke Hall ever reliable in both attack and defence. Michael and Katie Finger
- always reliable - consolidated the centre. Megan Forrest,
Adam Smetana and Troy Sibson ran and tackled well and
supported the defenders. Bridget Ockerse
worked hard as keeper, preventing many goals. The score didn’t reflect the
amount of attacking effort put in by the Aztecs.
Aztecs made a quick start with Alicia Wood-Davies scoring very early in the game
and attacking well enough to score another 2 in the second half. Alicia fought
hard with great support from Steph Hill and Under 15 player, Karen Pedder. Robyn
Ridsdale had a stint on the forward line and was unlucky not to score. Steph
Crookston and Nat Tyson arrived to give us a full team and both played superbly.
Bridgette Ockerse was strong in defence and the switch with Robyn saw her score
in the second half. Jan Park and Sam Hill were key players and tackled well.
Jackie Mowat was ever reliable on the back line and Barb our goalie was awesome,
saving many a Gulls attack.
Goal scorers: Alicia
Wood-Davies (3), Bridgette Ockerse (1)
Once again Gulls were strong in defence, whilst Aztecs drew many short corners, Gulls were quickly able to shut them down. Great goal keeping by Deanne Smith. Great offensive work by Michelle Goulter. Our tackling continues to improve each week while continued efforts to score were unsuccessful Gulls made major inroads into the circle.
Warriors drew Drouids 2 – 2
Well played by warriors to fight back to salvage a draw in this game. They let Drouids get off to a flyer with two fairly early goals. Lisa, Rebina and Belinda played well all day carrying the ball forward at every opportunity. Well done Lisa to score both goals, the second half with a late equaliser. It was good to have subs for the game today, better luck next week girls.
Great game as usual against the Warriors, they always face up
strong and confident. Drouids started well with the first goal from Becky Smythe
a clever sneaky goal, followed by another by Telese Lane. The Warriors took
awhile to answer, but did come back with two strong goals. A tough challenge,
especially for Sari Wright’s first game, and great moves from Tahlia and Claire.
Great stuff ladies.
The men played a hard fought game. Unfortunately we were
short a couple of players again. Nev did a great job as goalie in his
first time in the job. He made some good saves and it took some good shots
from the Drouids to get past him. The half back line worked incredibly hard
all game, well done Bruce, Mick and Steve, a great goal to Steve from a long
shot - he can hit the ball after all- and a fantastic goal to Sam after a well
timed leave from London, not sure how many more games on the field for him!
Well done on a good effort guys and with a bit more luck we might have won.
A
great flowing and spirited game played by well matched teams. The Aztecs
strength was bolstered with the luxury of having 3 subs in reserve. The first
half saw a great goal scored by Brian Taylor and excellent saves by goalie Ben
Fallzon. Leigh Taylor and Logan Colley-Curtin did well in keeping forward
pressure on the Gulls. The back line held firm, exhibiting consistent skills and
concentration under pressure, ensuring the persistent attacks form the Gulls
were reduced to a minimum.
Gulls played an excellent team game with everyone playing a very skilful game. Joel Murtagh, Chris Miles, Rob Clarke, Stuart Martin and Craig Rutherford ran hard all game with many attempts at goal. Ben Sandy and Richard Court played very well in defence allowing Adam Horne to play an aggressive goalie running out to meet the attackers many times. Chris Miles scored the only goal for Gulls this week with many attempts by the forwards.
