Aztecs 3 drew with Drouids 3

This was a hard played game with Aztecs down 3-1 then to claw their way back for a well deserved draw. The attack on numerous occasions pushed forward with determination to score. Josh continually ran from one end of the field to the other with the play.

A fast flowing match played out in very different conditions to last week. Great running by Keisha Leggett, Matthew Zurrer, Liz Christian and Kate Christian, who repeatedly pushed the ball forward. Good effort by goalie Luke Jamieson.

Aztecs played a consistently attacking game and were unlucky to come away with the win. Cameron Price stood in for our injured goalie and stopped several attacks, while Jake Griffith, Tiffany Bourke and Georgia Irwin worked hard on the field. Goal scorers: Melanie Whitehead, Leigh Childe.

The game started very quickly with Aztecs attempting a goal in the first minute of play but goalie Evan Urquart defended well to avert it. It was a fast hard game with great defence and attacking skills displayed by Drouids players. Their hard work paid off with a pleasing win.

Aztecs 1 defeated Drouids 0

The glorious weather brought out the best in the Aztecs players. The whole team worked hard but mention should be made of Melanie Crookston who applied a tactical game and looked for gaps and positioned herself well to receive the ball. Jamie Cochrane scored the only goal for the game when he smashed it through the Drouids defenders.

Drouids tried their best but failed to capitalize on their chances. Tom Carr in his 2nd game led by example as did Lloyd Urqhart who played a great game running hard all day. Jevan, Tom, Zac and Matt all played good constructive hockey.

Gulls 1 defeated Warriors 0

Perfect hockey weather raised the bar for all concerned to create a very close game that neither team was able to dominate. A solid team effort by all was highlighted by strong defensive work by Rochelle MacFarlane, Matt Vorbach, Neil Forth and Matt Waller. Isaac Armstrong scored the solitary goal of the game.

In an evenly matched game Warriors played their hearts out in the warm winter sun. Lyndon Calway stopped many of the Gulls attacks.

Women’s

Warriors 4 defeated Drouids 2

In better weather conditions, Christine Hobbs and Sally Messer in attack and Lisa Deppeler and Rachel Taylor in defence all had solid games. Renee Hossack did a great job pushing the ball forward in her first game while Janelle New scored a terrific goal from a penalty stroke.

Another good team effort by Drouids Women this week. Thank you to Georgie for being on the interchange bench the last 2 weeks – it’s been great to have you there. Goal scorers: Becky Smythe, Elena Semora.

Aztecs 6 defeated Gulls Green 1

A well umpired game played in good spirit by both teams. Aztecs grouped together well this week, which was highlighted by effective passing amongst the forwards to penetrate Gulls defence. Rowena Beck was consistently attacking which resulted in 3 goals. Kerry Irwin made excellent positioning on the post, which saw her tap in 2 goals. Alicia Wood-Davies, back from her sick bed, also scored. Megan Farmer was great support and helped set up several goals. Happy 18th to Bonnie James.

Gulls Green were stunned by 3 quick goals by Aztecs, struggling initially. Gradually they began to combine well with great play by Emma Wallin, Lara Trevorrow and Cathy Gower. Laura Court showed improvement and determination. Replacement goalie Michelle Goulter defended well with the support of the defenders. New comer Alana Roberto scored her first goal for Gulls late in the second half.

Men’s

Warriors 2 defeated Gulls 0

Warriors attacked the goals for most of the game. David King showed skill by weaving around a number of players to draw one of Warriors many short corners. Luke Martin was the only player to score in the first half and Warwick Hill’s second half goal came from great passing after a long corner.

The Gulls men struggled against Warriors despite having a full bench. Goalie John Miles with Ken Kemp and Richard Court defended well but Gulls were unable to turn their forward thrusts into goals.

Drouids 9 defeated Aztecs 1

A total of 12 players took the field making for an open but slow game. Drouids had control from the first hit off and mounted many attacks on goal thanks to some great play in the mid-field from Dan Wiglesworth and Chris Garden, both hitting in goals.  Drouids numbers were bolstered to nine during the first half giving the team more of the ball and allowing Alec Zurrer to convert after a long pass from Alister Milne making the score 3-0 at half time.  Drouids increased the scoreline to 9-1 by full-time with some excellent team assisted goals by Dion Beasley and Paul Pearson with the help of Rob Harrington and Gordon.  Great effort was shown by an undermanned Drouids and great sportsmanship shown by an even further undermanned Aztecs.
