Warriors One
def Gulls Two 3 - 0
First gamers
Shenae Brown and Cooper Knap both got straight into the action and listened well
to their coach. Kate Rinehart was again the main goal scorer with Seth
Calway also putting one into the net. Matthew Interlandi, Hudson Couacaud
and captain Tessa Martin all ran hard and opened up play brilliantly by pushing
wide to avoid the crowded centre corridor.
Goal Scorer: Kate
Rinehart (2), Seth Calway (1).
The
Gulls 1 team took to the field with enthusiasm, obviously enjoying their first
real match together. The defence played with tenacity and the attack with
determination. Darcy Lewis, Olivia Donders and Alex Elder-Hackford scored goals,
to both the team and supporters' great delight. Congratulations to Alex who also
won the Most Disciplined Player award.
Goal Scorer: Darcy
Lewis, Olivia Donders, Alex Elder-Hackford.
Warriors were
undermanned again this week but toiled valiantly all game. Vanessa worked very
hard all game running back and forwards. Angelina played a good
second half as goalie. The first year players, Lani, Wade, and Shannon are
improving all the time and the team was well led by captain Alice. Well played
guys and hopefully we can have closer to a full team soon.
The under 9’s played very well as a team
controlling much of the game. Austin Williamson tackled with great skill and was
assisted by Mikayla Smith and Henry Grant. Courtney McDonald showed great
control up forward with Connor Smythe allowing Nathan Smith to score 2 goals and
Kelsey Powell one goal. Lachlan Pearson made a great save in goals.
Goal scorers:
Nanathan Smith (2), Kelsey Powell (1).
During the first
half the Aztecs were under constant defensive pressure with Claire Giles and
Mikayla McDonald steadfast in defence. Several offensive drives were started by
Alannah Balcombe and Hayden Smith. Half time scores were 1-0 Drouids way. The
second half started with Kaitlyn Spragg setting up a run by Hayden Smith to
level the score. Despite some dogged defence, the Drouids snuck one in late to
lead 2-1. Steph Coulter kept attacking throughout the second half and Saffron
Park did a great job filling in. Despite a great team effort Aztecs lost 3-1.
Goal scorers: Hayden
Smith (1)
Two nil at half
time. The scoring dried up with tight defence by both teams. First goal from
Nathan Smith, just inside the D. Felicity Johnson broke from the centre restart
and passed off to Mia Pedersen who ran in from the wing to shoot the second
goal. Great team effort!
Goal scorers: Nathan
Smith (1), Mia Pedersen (1)
A fantastic team
effort by everyone. Sam Gilbert in goals displayed determination and skill in
saving many goals. First time players, Jeremy Van Wichen-Robinson and
Mitchell Nunan showed great potential as they quickly picked up the play of the
game. Travis Gallagher was excellent at
getting the ball down the
field by dribbling and some strong hits. Stewart Bedford and Isabella
Donders worked well at tackling and passing. Thanks to under nine players
Samuel Wells, Olivia Donders, Eliza Greenall and Gabriella Carbon for helping
playing up.
Welcome to Oscar
Bateman and Daniel Frost for their first game with Warriors.
From the onset
Warriors were on the attack. Great teamwork and accurate passing saw Warriors
dominate the game. Lachlan Naylor put one away in the first half and attempted a
second that was deflected to Daniel Frost who finished off the goal. Aztecs, to
their credit, attempted a come back in the second half, but Warriors rose to the
occasion and once again Daniel Frost found the net, sealing the game for
Warriors with a 3 nil win.
The first half was
played mostly in Aztecs defensive half with Chloe Scott doing a good job
stopping many shots at goal. In the second half Aztecs gained momentum with
plenty of forward movement from Hayden Smith (Under 9) and James Carey working
well on the left wing. Lots of support was provided by Tara Bagnall and Ariane
Ross. Aztecs did very well to hold off a strong Warriors side and a great game
was played by all.
Team play throughout
the field was a strong feature of this game. Great passing and good positioning
led to the sharing of Drouids 10 goals to 6 players; Zoe Bush, Stephanie Zurrer,
Lachlan Hannah, Thomas Park, Mitchell Park and Grace Park.
Gulls goalie worked hard against a determined Drouids team.
Warriors def Aztecs
10-1
Today’s game started
with purple skies and muddy field, but luckily the rain held off. The ball
action was slow due to the muddy conditions, but players utilised good stick and
ball skills to control the ball. Warriors had a terrific game resulting in
high goal scoring, but Aztecs were down a couple of players. It was a good
game for the Aztecs goalie and defence players, as many good shots at goal were
stopped. The warriors played well as a team, with good passing across the
field and set ups for goal. Ethan Calway, Cameron Dyt, Jack Rinehart and Sam
Taylor played well, demonstrating good stick work. Nearly all of the
Warrior forwards were successful at scoring, these being Maddy Noye, Fletcher
Boreham, Ethan Calway, Giselle McNamara, Tanita Brown and Cameron Dyt made
many attempts to get one in, but all were stopped. The Aztec supporters
cheered loudly, when their side scored a goal. A good game by both teams.
An undermanned
Aztecs team defended strongly against a strong Warriors side. Stewart McKenzie
was outstanding as goalkeeper. Late into the second half Campbell Ross' shot at
goal was Aztecs only score for the day.
Goal scorer:
Campbell Ross (1)
Warriors def Aztecs 3 - 1.
In a game that was
close and hard-fought, the Warriors prevailed 3-1. Strong defence and hard work
from all Players saw the gallant Aztecs team unable to break the game open.
Goals to Brendan Noye (2) and Carly Mattson enabled the Warriors to maintain the
lead for much of the game. Leigh Boreham also contributed well, and Jemma
Rinehart was in many attacking moves. Ben Murphy continues to improve, and
everyone else can be very pleased with their efforts. 2 wins from 2 starts is a
great way
to kick off the season.
Goals scorers:
Brendan Noye (2), Carly Mattson (1).
Aztecs players ran
hard and fast with everyone displaying solid teamwork. Luke Hall and Chris
Cooper were dynamic in attack with Luke roving the whole ground. Thanks again to
our 4 under 13s players and well done to Lukas Willig who is new to the side
this year. Great work from Todd McLean for scoring our only goal with assistance
from Chloe Bourke.
Goal scorers: Todd
McLean (1)
With wet conditions
Drouids was able to hold out gulls 5 goals to 3 to win their first game to the
season. Prue Grant played a strong game, with fantastic running to help Jacob
Bush, Eddie Edmonds and James Pugh score the goals.
Gulls defeated Drouids 3-2
Samantha Atkinson
scored the first goal for Drouids in the first half and then followed by Jacob
Bush swiftly scored the second goal in the first half. It was a quick game for
the Drouids where Tristan Walker, Ben McCarty, Sam Stenson and Luke Jamieson all
played well in the defensive line.
Goal scorers:
Samantha Atkinson (1) and Jacob Bush (1)
Warriors, with 10
players, played a hard fought first half and scored 6 goals to Aztecs 0, who
were undermanned with only 8 players. Aztecs came out hard in the second half
and scored their first goal. Warriors responded with another goal, and Aztecs
fought back with two more. Nick Brown managed to finish off the game with one
more prior to the siren.
Scorers: - Nick Brown (3), Jacinta Brown (1), Carly Matson (1), Brendan Noye
(1), Sam Lodge (1), James Rhodes (1).
Aztecs were outnumbered by their opponents, but with the assistance of several
Under 15’s, were able to field a team. Rookie Goalkeeper Bridget Ockerse was
awesome against the Warriors attack. Luke Taylor played his usual strong game,
Troy Sibson exhibited ability to read the play and Chris Cooper worked
tirelessly in defence.
First year Under 15,
Megan Forrest experienced the thrill of playing with the “big kids”. She was a
little over-awed at the start but settled in well and was an excellent
contributor to the team. Well done, Megan!!
Warriors 3 def. Aztecs 1
Great start with an
early goal by Robina Sharp, set the Warriors up for a great game with all
Warriors team members sharing in the excitement. Belinda Hatfield, Brittany
Tress, Karla-Lee Hudgell and Hayley Knersch all played well. Lisa Smith scored
two goals. Tracey New, (even when her sister puts the pressure on creating
strokes to defend), threw her body on the line for this game. Kym Rhinehart and
Catherine Horsbrough competently assisted Tracey in defence. Happy Birthday to
Lisa Shaw who filled in on the day.
Goal scorers: Lisa
Smith (2), Robina Sharp (1).
Aztecs fought hard
against Warriors but failed to convert many attacking plays into goals. Sam Hill
played a brilliant game, defending the ball well and driving forward. Alicia
Wood-Davies was key in attack with great support from Bridget Ockerse and Jane
Rees. Steph Crookston scored the only goal after creating good position and
Tiffany Bourke was in all the plays. Barb the goalie put in a solid performance
and Anna Nielsen improves every week.
With more new
players Drouids were able to play with 3 on the bench. Drouids attack was strong
in the first half with 2 goals scored. Justine Gooding played strong on the left
wing again with Kehis Leggett and Leah Holgate working well together. Ann-Marie
Fleming took some constructive free hit from the top of the circle, to drive the
ball forward. Meg O’Brien forced a penalty stroke at the goal line, which Claire
Wiglesworth took the stroke, and got it in with style. Well done.
The Drouids and Gulls played a very even game, despite the final score line, with fitness the main difference in the second half. John Thomson scored the Drouids only goal early in the game with support from Dillon Thomson. Adam Tyson, Mitchell Haylock and Jevan Legget were fast and accurate, controlling much of the play in the mid-field. Nathan Furphy and Paul Pearson were strong in defence, repelling many Gull’s advances into the circle.

Warriors 6 beat Aztecs 0
What a difference it
makes to have a full team, and even a couple of subs. It was a great team
game by everyone today. Nev put in a beauty in only his second game,
defending really well between half and
full back. Its nice to have a
forward line that is capable of working the ball around to set up a few goals.
Some solid defence from Lyndon in goals helped keep the score line to 0 from
Aztecs. Well done everyone!
The long weekend and
a team wedding (congratulations Josh and Ashley) led to a depleted Aztecs team
against a strong Warriors side with several interchange players.
New player Steve
Fallon was solid in defence, ably assisted by Dean Crawford. Ben Falzon in goals
worked hard, while Damian Png and Matthew Taylor made several forward moves but
could not seem to find the goals.
The “senior” team of
Brian Taylor and Ross Midgley worked tirelessly under pressure.
Under 17’s Luke Taylor and Owen Douglas once again made themselves available to help out the team. Thanks boys!!
