Drouids def Warriors One 5 – 3

Drouids under 9 started strong from the start, having a fight on their hands with the Warriors team. Kelsey Powell scoring the first goal for the match.. Mikayla Smith done well in attack on the wing forcing many free hits, Austin Williamson had a great run towards goal forcing the ball through. Connor Smythe played well and with determination. Dougal Wright, Henry Grant and Jenna was persistent with there tackles across the mid field were they was able to force a lot of play in the Drouids attacking goal circle. Nathan Smith played fantastic in the forward line with fast and smooth stick skills to score Drouids other goals. Lachlan Pearson stopped an amazing goal from the warriors, and helped kept the Warriors score line down. Well Done Drouids, great team work!

Goal scorers: Nathan smith (4), Kelsey Powell (1)

Aztecs One def Gulls One 1 – 0

On a cool damp slippery morning Aztecs One struggled to put a full team together. Thanks to Darcy Lewis (1st half) and Kate Tucker (2nd half) for swapping from Gulls to make the game more even. It was a great team effort with great running by Hayden Smith, Stephanie Coulter and Claire Giles. A great defensive game ended with Aztecs One scoring the only goal in the dying seconds of the game. Well done everyone.

Goal scorer: Hayden Smith (1)

Gulls One had an exciting game today, with lots of running by everyone. Good attacking play by Gabi Carbon and Olivia Donders and a brilliant save by Darcy Lewis (Most Disciplined Player) in the last minute of the match!

Aztecs Two def Gulls Two 1 – 0

Another round decimated by flu, only 4 players for Aztecs, full team for Gulls Two. Good aggressive play for the ball from Anthony and Brittany Forrest, took the game right up to Gulls. A scoreless 1st half but, the 2nd half saw a goal to Anthony Forrest in the first 5 minutes. The ball stayed in gulls defensive zone almost for the whole half, with a near miss late in game. Key players for Aztecs were Brittany Forrest, Saffron Park in attack, Anthony Forrest and Rachel Prout in defence. Anthony also played on attack. Rachel Prout took a knock to the head for the team and needed ice pack but no tears were seen, brave girl.

Drouids def Aztecs 3 – 0

A very even game, Drouids had most of the attacking play in the first half but Aztecs kept them out with some strong defence.  The deadlock was broken when Isaac Daly scored a messy, hard-fought goal.  Jarrod Smith then scored from a short corner.  Felicity Johnson made a great stop in the centre, the ball made its way to Nathan Smith who dribbled in and scored our third goal.  Jarrod Pearson played a solid game as captain and Piper Hobson was diligent in goals.  A good team game by all the Drouids players.

Both teams were well matched in the first half with no scores recorded by either side. Excellent work by our goalie Tim Giles in blocking attempts at goals. Another consistent game from Chloe Scott, attacking well throughout the match. Chloe was backed up well by Hayden Smith who tackled hard and bravely played on despite injury. James Carey passed the ball well into space and Hayden Prout covered the field well assisting wherever possible. Leah Rasmussen and Erin Spragg were terrific in defence and also helped to block goals. Tara Bagnall, Ariane Ross and Jesse Brown backed up well and it was great to see all of our players starting to play as a cohesive team.

Gulls def Warriors 1 – 0

A great team effort by the Gulls kept the ball down their end for much of the game in what was otherwise a fairly evenly matched game. It was good to see passing between players although the wings could be used more. Sam Gilbert and Stewart Bedford performed well tackling in defence while Gabriella Carbon and Olivia and Isabella Donders showed superb skill in stopping and pushing the ball forward. Daniel Greenall scored the only goal for the match, while goalie, Mitchell Nunan, saw little action in his position, as the ball was kept busy up at the Gulls end. Travis Gallager and Matthew Duttneal showed great courage in extracting the ball from the pack. Thanks to under nine player Samuel Wells for playing out on the wing.

Warriors played well today, they presented a strong defence.  Jasimine Mead proving a strong back blocking the gulls attack effectively. Matt Lubberink and Lachlan Naylor lead the forward attack pushing hard. In the second half of the game warriors kept the play down towards their goal area.
Lochlin Clarke worked hard as goalie deflecting one shot for goal, but gulls getting past his defences once.  All the warrior players showed strong teamwork and sold skills.

Drouids def Aztecs 8 – 0

Due to the late arrival of Aztecs they started one goal down from tip off. Zoe Bush started Drouids landslide with a great push in goal. From that time on it was all Drouids. Zoe bush and Stephanie Zurrer were excellent in attacking passing, distributing the ball to their teammates. Jack Shaddock had a great game away from his normal goal-keeping job scoring two goals. Mitchell Park did a good job for his first time as goalkeeper. A Strong team effort against an undermanned Aztecs

saw Drouids win comfortably 8-0

Goal scorers: Sam Watts, Ed Edmonds, Jack Shaddock (2), Lachie Hannah, Zoe Bush, Cassie Sherlock

Despite a late start and two penalty goals Aztecs played a solid game. Stewart McKenzie was a standout in defence and passed the ball well to Cambell Ross who was able to move the ball well up the field. Matt Shaw improves every week and attacked well. Playing goalie this week was Todd McLean, who succeeded in stopping a lot of opposition goals. Hamish Connelly covered the field well, along with Chloe Scott. Ariane Ross played well on the wing initially, and followed up in defence in the second half blocking some attempts at goal.

Warriors def Gulls 1 – 0

An evenly matched game throughout saw both teams playing hard against each other. Warriors came out on top with a combined goal that Sam Taylor finally pushed in. Good defence work by Warriors stopped many of the Gulls balls.  The Warriors forward line worked hard and spent time in the goal circle and had many short corners, but the muddy conditions made scoring difficult.  The ball tended to stay put in the mud as the players slipped and slide around it.  A good day for getting those uniforms muddy!

Gulls def Warriors 4 – 3

In wet and muddy conditions, Warriors got off to a slow start, conceding two goals early.  Amidst enthusiastic encouragement from the sidelines, they lifted and Brendan Noye scored the first goal. Damien Crawford was determined in goal and kept out many Gulls attempts. Everyone worked at applying pressure and Brenton Lowes, Jemma Rinehart, Aiden Cummings and Ben Murphy tackled well. Spirited running by Hayley Knersh and Karla-Lee Hudgell helped set up the second goal, and Brendan Noye shot the third soon after.

Drouids def Aztecs 7 – 2

A fast paced game was played today by both team in very slippery conditions.  Aztecs were strong in their defence but Drouids still seemed to be able to push through with determination in scoring goals.  A highlight for today’s game was when Prue Grant scored her very first goal after playing hockey for 7 years – well done!!

Goal scorers: Jacob Bush (1), Eddie Edmonds (2), James Pugh (3) and Prue Grant (1).

Starting off with a defensive half.  Aztecs backs, Stewart McKenzie and Chris Cooper doing an excellent job at blocking the ball at the top of the circle.  With our attacking line consistently pushing forward we are showing signs of hope. Goal Keeper Todd McLean doing an excellent job fighting off numerous goals.  Unfortunately couldn't keep up.  Katie and Michael Finger, Chloe Bourke and Hamish Connelly having numerous shots at goal.  Fortunately we scored two goals and with one player short and nearly everyone playing two games Aztecs played extremely well.

Drouids drew Aztecs 1 – 1

Despite the Aztecs lack of players (Drouids out-numbering them by four), they put up a good fight against the Drouids. Terrible conditions caused a messy game and some equally messy play. After Aztecs scored first Drouids player Jacob Bush earned a recovering goal from a short corner.

Goal scorers: Jacob Bush

An undermanned Aztecs side took the field with their main objective being to play on quickly to avoid the blocking moves applied by Drouids. The third Aztecs corner resulted in a goal from a strong shot by Luke Taylor. Drouids countered with their first goal early in the second half.

Goal scorers: Luke Taylor (1)

Women

Warriors def Gulls 3 – 1

A great game with lots of tumbles, due to the muddy conditions. Warriors worked well as a team, working the ball from the back to the forward line with lots of shots at goal, Lisa Smith scored in the
first half.  Second half saw Warriors come out strong with some good work from Lisa, Robina Sharp, Hayley Knersch and Belinda Hatfield resulting on many attacks on goal. Once again Lisa scoring from a short corner.  Persistence paid off in the end for Hailey Knersch scoring on the rebound shot from Belinda Hatfield.  Welcome back and great work to Kylie Crawford in defence and Bethany Martin, Rachel Taylor, Kym Rinehart, Katherine Campbell and Tracey New.

Whilst numbers were down again Gulls played a strong game at both ends of the field.  Our goalie did a remarkable job for her first time in goals.  Michelle continued to contribute extremely well in the midfield, displaying some spectacular falling in the mud.  Sarah held together the back line stoically.  We had great strength in the attacking circle with many shots on goal with Cathy able to score one in the first half.

Drouids def Aztecs 6 – 1

Aztecs women fought a hard but battle in sticky, muddy conditions. The strong defence of Sam Hill, Jan Park, Jackie Mowat, Robyn Ridsdale and Tiffany Bourke held the stronger Drouids team to only one goal in the first half. Unfortunately, the attackers found it difficult to penetrate Drouid’s defence in the second half. Alicia Wood-Davies and Bridgette Ockerse again teamed together well and with a strong pass across the circle from Jane Rees, Bridgette was able to score our only goal. Steph Hill and Steph Crookston both played strong games in attack with great tackling. Barb our goalie was again awesome and managed to save many a Drouids attack, preventing the score from being even higher! Thanks to Drouids for a fun, hilarious and friendly game.

With Drouids scoring a goal in the first half, they were able to relax and play a friendly game. Drouids were very talkative, which lead to many fanatic plays towards the goals. Bec Smythe and Talia Leggett showed teamwork as they scored their goals. Talia also displayed great calling with a nice pass across goal, where she swept the ball high into goals, giving the Aztecs goalie no hope to save. Justine Gooding was fast on her feet to scored two nice goals in the second half. Nicky Cann, Helen Timbury was strong in midfield. Gita Walker was fantastic at blocking in the back line. It was great to see some fun and sportsmanship been played between the two teams, especially from Meg O’Brien and Robyn Ridsdale. Thanks to the Aztecs.

Goal scores: Talia Leggett (2), Justine Gooding (2), Bec Smythe (2).

Men

Aztecs def Drouids 3 – 1

An outstanding goal scored by Matt Taylor within the first ten minutes of play and he was unstoppable from then on, scoring all three goals. Goalkeeper Ben Falzon produced a number of great saves and Damien Png was quick in the midfield along with Aaron Falzon who pushed up field well. An excellent game by the whole team considering they were short of players.

Goal scorers: by Matt Taylor (3)

The Drouids got off to a slow start on the softening ground giving the Aztecs three early goals before John Thomson scored Drouids only goal late in the first half.  The second half was all Drouids but the forwards could not find the back of the net, with Dean Gallagher and Lachie McLean having numerous opportunities.  First timer, from the U17s, Jim McCormack combined well with Jevan Leggett through the centre controlling much of the play.  Nathan Furphy and Paul Pearson stopped the ball regularly in full back with reliable support from Michael Smythe in goals.

Goal scorers: John Thomson (1)

Warriors def Gulls 5 – 4

This was a fantastic, fast paced game, remarkable considering the conditions. Warriors did well to be two goals up at half time, because gulls got four good goals in the second half. Our first half goals were
one to Lyndon, who finally found the radar this week, and one absolutely cracking shot to Brendan.  Sam was unlucky to bounce one off the goalies head- good save that!  The second half saw Lyndon
get two more goals, he's definitely going back to goalie next week!  Sam also got one after a great pass in from Steve. There was some very good passing this week which was good to see.  Well played Mick in goals this week, the back line tried to keep the ball away from him but he still had to make some good saves. A good game all round.

What a great game, Gulls men played very well.  Adam Horne did great defending and showed great athleticism during the game.  The return of Andy Armstrong inspired some great team play with his first match back netting him two goals, welcome back.  A fast moving game in slippery mud proved a challenge but was fought out until the end.
