Weekly Questions below

 

Each week an umpiring challenge  will be posted on the web site.

You need to post your answer by the end of the day  into the tub hanging from the notice board in the shelter at Bellbird Park.  It is labelled “Quiz Entries”.

Only one entry per person  is allowed. Be sure to put your full name, which club you play for and your  age group.

This year we have four prizes each week for the first  four correct entries drawn .

Winners will be posted on the web. At the end of the season  there may be a major  prize for the most correct entries.

MAY A FREE HIT AWARDED TO THE DEFENDERS IN THE CIRCLE BE TAKEN FORM ANYWHERE IN THE CIRCLE?

Answer: Yes up to the 16yd line

Umpires Quiz Question Week 2, 2010

THE BALL STRIKES THE UMPIRE AND DEFLECTS INTO THE CIRCLE ONTO THE STICK OF AN ATTACKING PLAYER GOES ON TO SCORE.

 Answer: Goal. Umpire is considered part of the field of play therefore play on.

Umpires Quiz Question Week 3 2010

A full back is standing in front of the goal next to the goalkeeper. An attacker's shot at goal is accurate but is stopped from entering the goals by an unintentional stop by the full backs feet.

Answer: Penalty Stroke. - it is an unintentional breach that prevented a certain goal.

Umpires Quiz Question Week 4 2010

Two defending players attempt to simultaneously take the ball off an opposition player.

Answer: Play on. No breach has occurred unless they stick obstruct or obstruct.

There is no rule that states two players cannot tackle one opponent.

However it increases the chances of a breach occurring, eg obstruction.

During a penalty stroke, the shooter takes 2 steps before playing the ball.

Let play continue, no breach has occurred.

You give a green card to a player for a sloppy tackle that involves heavy body contact. Later in the match this same player offends in a similar manner.

A lofted ball, flicked safely on the way up, is going to land between two opposing players.

Free hit against the player who lofted the ball, taken where the two players are. (i.e. where the danger occurred)

Umpires Quiz Question Week 8 2010

You are umpiring a West Gippsland match. The scores are locked at 2 all and a penalty corner is awarded. The final siren sounds. It's the last round and the result will determine which team finishes in the final 4?

Answer: penalty corner is played out.

Umpires Quiz Question Round 10, 2010.

The ball is played over the backline by the attacker?

Answer: 16 yard hit to the Defenders.

Umpires Quiz Question Round 11, 2010.

There is a simultaneous breach of the rules by both teams OR time has been stopped for an injury and there has been no offence.

Answer: A bully to restart play.

Umpires Quiz Question Round 12, 2010.

On a penalty corner the attacking team receives the ball outside of the circle. The shot at goal from inside the circle is travelling along the ground until it is deflected into the top corner of the goal off an attackers stick. What would be the decision if it was deflected off a defender's stick.

Answer:  "goal awarded"

Umpires Quiz Question Round 13, 2010.

The ball is played intentionally over the back line by a defender.

Answer: Penalty corner:

Carly Matson went a little further and differentiated between whether it was hit out from the goal circle or outside it.

Umpires Quiz Question Round 14, 2010.

You "blow" a penalty corner and moments later the ball goes into the goals from the stick of an attacker, hit from inside the circle. You realise you should have played "advantage"

Answer: Penalty Corner.

An attacking player shoots at goal whilst the ball is on the line of circle, it then hits a defenders stick and goes into the goals?

Answer: Goal awarded.
